The opportunity
West Hammond Church of Christ seeks a faithful gospel minister to work alongside our
congregation in preaching, teaching, evangelism, and spiritual growth. We are a predominantly
African-American congregation with average attendance of approximately 70, located in
Hammond, Indiana, in the northwest Indiana and greater Chicago region.
We are committed to New Testament Christianity, the authority of Scriptures, and a cappella
worship. We seek a minister who loves the Lord and His church, teaches biblical truth clearly,
and builds caring relationships with members and the wider community of all ages.
Our leadership and goals
The congregation currently has no elders or deacons. The minister will work cooperatively with
the men involved in congregational leadership and the congregation, within an agreed
framework of responsibilities and accountability. One of our long-term goals is to develop
qualified men who may serve as elders and deacons according to Scripture (1 Timothy 3:1-13;
Titus 1:5-9). We seek someone who can teach, mentor, and equip members toward this goal
while encouraging shared service and responsibility.
Primary responsibilities
 Prepare and deliver biblically sound sermons and teach Bible classes according to the agreed
schedule.
 Conduct personal Bible studies and help members participate in evangelism and community
outreach.
 Visit and encourage members, including those who are sick, grieving, or spiritually
struggling.
 Help strengthen Bible teaching and support the spiritual development of young people,
families, and new Christians.
 Train and encourage members to use their abilities in congregational service, including
mentoring men for future leadership.
 Communicate respectfully, promote unity, and cooperate with congregational leaders in
planning and carrying out the work.
